A valid calculation can have no dictionary match: the original Greek list does not include every spelling, inflection or phrase. A Latin transliteration searches a different table. In Decoder, keep Greek Isopsephy selected; if a word appears, open it in the calculator and select the Greek row to verify the same total. The calculator’s total link takes you back to that number and cipher.

Verify Greek character variants

Greek calculation removes combining marks after decomposing the text; the input itself keeps its original spelling. Σ, σ and ς each count as 200. The numeral signs below use this calculator’s displayed mapping. ABC is not converted into Greek and has no supported Greek letters.

Good to know

Greek isopsephy

This is the Greek numeral table, distinct from Hebrew and Jewish Latin mappings.

Sigma and numeral signs

Final sigma keeps ordinary sigma’s value; historical numeral signs are accepted.

Case and accents

Case does not matter. Combining marks are ignored for totals and preserved in your text; spaces, punctuation and digits add nothing.

Limited word list

Matches come from a small original Greek list. Other words outside this list may share the same total.

Read the full explanation

Isopsephy sums Greek letter values from the alphabetic numeral table: units, tens and hundreds. It is distinct from Hebrew gematria and the modern Jewish Latin mapping. Latin transliterations are not converted into Greek.

Uppercase and lowercase count equally. Combining marks are ignored for totals and preserved in the original text; final sigma and ordinary sigma have the same value. Stigma and digamma, koppa and sampi retain their historical numeral assignments. Spaces, digits and punctuation do not count.

Enter the exact Greek spelling and inspect each letter in the breakdown. Repeated letters count every time; the total is not reduced or multiplied. If another tool disagrees, check its table and variant handling. Concordance searches a small original Greek list, not a complete dictionary. Our Greek list is limited, so other words may share the total. Record the original spelling and method as part of your study.

Frequently asked questions

Contact support: [email protected]
Is isopsephy the same as Greek gematria?

Isopsephy is the name used for summing Greek letter values. This page applies the standard Greek alphabetic numeral table.

Does final sigma count?

Yes. Both σ and ς have the value 200; uppercase Σ is counted the same way.

Are accents included in the result?

No. Greek combining marks are ignored for totals and preserved in the original text. Uppercase and lowercase produce equal totals.

Can composed and decomposed Greek accents change the total?

Not here. Precomposed ά and decomposed α followed by U+0301 both count alpha = 1. Greek calculation decomposes accents and removes combining marks while preserving the original input.
