How a Hebrew Standard (Mispar Hechrachi) total is made

Three steps. Nothing else is added or rounded.

1 · Use the table

Why Hebrew totals differ

Use the spelling shown by your source. In this calculator, שָׁלוֹם and שלום have the same base letters. Vowel points stay in your original input but do not add to the total.

Standard keeps the ordinary value of final ם. Our extended-final Mispar Gadol option changes it from 40 to 600. Ordinal uses alphabet positions. These are different tables, not contradictory answers.

The Latin spelling Shalom is a different input. This calculator does not turn it into Hebrew. Use the Hebrew spelling from your own source and keep the method name with your result.

The totals above demonstrate the tables implemented here. A method label in another source may use a different convention; compare the displayed letter values.

Calculate a name in Hebrew

  1. Enter a Latin spelling to see a suggested Hebrew spelling, or type Hebrew directly using the keyboard.
  2. Edit the suggestion to the spelling you use. It is a rule-generated approximation, not a translation or a verified traditional name.
  3. Choose “Use this spelling” to calculate the Hebrew letters in the normal calculator.

Example, not a prescribed spelling: David → דויד = 24 by these rules. The traditional spelling דוד = 14. Spelling changes the total.

Compare Mispar Katan and Mispar Mispari

Both methods use the Hebrew letters in the input above. Standard, Gadol and Siduri remain in the original calculator.

Katan removes each letter’s trailing zeroes before addition, not the final sum’s digits. Mispari sums the Standard values of each number’s Hebrew name, using fixed reference-table values (TorahCalc version). It is not Shemi (letter-name expansion) or a digital root.

Final forms use base-letter standard values in both methods here. Vowel points and cantillation marks are ignored; Latin text and digits are not transliterated or counted.

Hebrew Standard for this input: 90.

Each letter reduced, then added. The total is not reduced again.

323 + 570 + 323 = 1216

Example: תורה gives Katan 4 + 6 + 2 + 5 = 17 (not 8), and Mispari 720 + 600 + 501 + 348 = 2169.

TorahCalc reference table · 22 base letters · collected October 8, 2026. Aleph is the documented expansion: א → אחד, 1 + 8 + 4 = 13. Other values use that fixed table, not generated spellings or a claim that every tradition uses one value. Our final-form policy is a product convention, not a verified TorahCalc final-form rule.

Mispar Hechrachi uses 22 Hebrew letters: units, tens, then hundreds. Its five final forms keep ordinary values. Here, Mispar Gadol uses the extended-final convention of 500–900. Hebrew Ordinal (Mispar Siduri) uses positions 1–22 here, with finals retaining ordinary positions. Other sources may use different final-form conventions. Select the corresponding calculator row to compare these methods.

Paste Hebrew text; the input follows its right-to-left direction. Vowel points, cantillation marks, spaces, digits, punctuation and Latin letters are ignored. The calculator does not translate or transliterate an English name. The Jewish calculator uses a separate Latin A–Z mapping.

Count repeated letters and use the breakdown to check the exact spelling. Copy the link to preserve it. Concordance and Decoder search the same limited Hebrew index, including FrequencyWords entries from OpenSubtitles2018 (CC BY-SA 4.0) and original entries, sorted by source frequency rank. No result does not mean a total is unique. Matching entries share a total under the selected method; consider them within your own study and sources.

Hebrew letters are shown in their original right-to-left order. Final-form conventions: GalEinai method reference.
