Reduction applies to each letter before adding. JZ in Full Reduction is 1 + 8 = 9; it is not a second reduction of the final total.

Check the letters actually counted

This calculator does not turn accented Latin letters into A–Z. A precomposed é and an e followed by a combining accent have different code points, so the letters counted can differ. Keep the original text when comparing or sharing totals.

Text: café

Precomposed é: U+00E9. Only c, a and f count.

Counted letters: caf

Skipped code points: U+00E9. Spaces also add nothing.

Good to know

Simple equals Ordinal

Both labels use the same A–Z values and always give the same total.

Reverse and Reduction

Reverse counts backward. Reduction reduces each letter before addition, not the final sum.

Supported letters

Case does not matter. Spaces, digits, punctuation and accented letters outside A–Z are skipped.

English Ordinal and Simple English use the same A–Z positions. Reverse Ordinal counts backward. Full Reduction takes each letter’s digital root before addition; Reverse Full Reduction does this to reversed values. Neither reduces the final sum again. English Sumerian is a modern calculator label for English Ordinal multiplied by six; it does not transliterate Sumerian text. Jewish uses a separate Latin mapping, not Hebrew translation.

Enter a word, name or phrase. Uppercase and lowercase count equally, and repeated letters count each time. Spaces, digits, punctuation and accented Latin letters outside A–Z are ignored. Spell a number in words to count its letters, or use Decoder to search by a numerical total.

Select a row to inspect the letter breakdown and matches in our independent word list. Free results show five entries, ordered by SCOWL commonness tier, shorter entries, then alphabetically. Preserve the exact spelling and table when sharing a result. Entries with equal sums match in the selected table. Keep the spelling and table name with each result.

Frequently asked questions

Contact support: [email protected]
Is Simple gematria the same as English Ordinal?

Yes. Simple gematria and English Ordinal both use A = 1 through Z = 26. They give the same total for every supported input.

How do I use a simple gematria calculator?

Type an English word or name, read the English Ordinal row, and open its letter breakdown. Spaces, punctuation and digits add no value; free matching lists show five entries.

How do Reverse and Reduction gematria work?

Reverse Ordinal assigns A = 26 through Z = 1. Full Reduction takes each letter's digital root before adding, so J = 1 and Z = 8. Reverse Full Reduction reduces the reversed letter values. The final sum is not reduced again.

Which English gematria table is the default?

English Ordinal: A = 1 through Z = 26. Other English tables are displayed alongside it.

Is the Full Reduction total reduced again?

No. Each letter is reduced to a value from 1 to 9 first, and those values are added. The final sum is left unchanged.

Why is English Sumerian six times Ordinal?

Every letter's ordinal value is multiplied by six, so adding those values multiplies the complete total by six too.

Why can accented Latin spellings give different totals?

Latin tables do not turn accented letters into A–Z. In English Ordinal, café with precomposed U+00E9 counts c/a/f = 10; café with e followed by U+0301 counts c/a/f/e = 15. Preserve the exact input and check the letters actually counted.
